So what a wild weekend. On Saturday morning Aidan's soccer team (the BU8 Bombers) took down the only undefeated team in the division 3-2. Aidan had a goal and played some tough keeper. Then we raced over to Gabrielle's game where her team (F.C. Blades G98) were in a pitched battle with the first place team (North Irvine SC) in their division. They had met once already this season and had been up 2-1 before giving up a handball (and the resultant penalty shot) with :10 on the clock. The girls went down 1-0 in the first half and then 2-0 in the beginning of the 2nd half. But then they started to come alive. Soon they were dominating the length of the field and took the lead 3-2 with a few minutes left. North Irvine put a furious attack for the final minutes but the girls held on for the victory which ensures them of 2nd place in the division.
Then on Sunday, Gabrielle's team opened up League Cup play by beating their first opponent 8-0. Gabrielle had two goals and four assists in the game. In the afternoon game, the girls took first place in their pool (and earned advancement) by beating a very good LAFC team 2-1. Their pool play next weekend includes a very good Silver level team and a very good Silver Elite level team. (Gabrielle's team is currently Bronze level and hoping to be promoted to Silver for next season.)
At the same time back in Irvine, Aidan was pitching in his Little League game. He pitched two innings, had four strikeouts, one pop out, one walk and two hits. Their team was on the losing end of the stick (again), but remember they have four 7 year olds playing in an 8-9 year old division.
On top of all that goodness, the Boston College Eagles beat Notre Dame yesterday and the Baltimore Ravens beat the Houston Texans this morning. Unfortunately, the Philadelphia Eagles went down to the division leading Giants this evening, so it wasn't a ~perfect~ weekend, but pretty darn close. :)
