A monumental figure in the American sports scene, legendary basketball coach John Wooden had twelve lessons in leadership that I''ve transcribed here. I'm recounting them here because I came across them specifically as I was doing research on leadership for kids. As it goes with these sorts of things, many of these are obvious, however, some are not and none should be taken for granted.
- Good Values Attract Good People.
- Love Is The Most Powerful Four-Letter Word.
- Call Yourself A Teacher.
- Emotion Is Your Enemy.
- It Takes 10 hands To Make A Basket.
- Little Things Make Big Things Happen.
- Make Each Day Your Masterpiece.
- The Carrot Is Mightier Than A Stick.
- Make Greatness Attainable By All.
- Seek Significant Change.
- Don’t Look At The Scoreboard.
- Adversity Is Your Asset.
These are great maxims to live your life by and to raise your kids by. No wonder he was so successful in bringing greatness out of his players.
